Brush Wolf Taxidermy is owned and operated by Stephanie Lee, who has 25 years experience in doing taxidermy work. In addition are more than 25 years of experience doing sculptural art, hand sewing fur hats, and other assorted craft work. Originally under the name Deer Woman, the name was later changed to Brush Wolf. Stephanie Lee is a 1994 Graduate of MD Institute College of Art (MICA), a nationally renowned art school. Her major was in general sculptural studies. This provided an excellent background for understanding the natural “sculpture” of animals, and of skills in such things as molding, casting, and carving.
Brush Wolf Taxidermy specializes in mammal mountings ( small game and large game), with a sub-specialty of doing furbearers, most specifically the predatory ones such as foxes, coyotes, wolves, mink, river otter, etc. Stephanie Lee is an avid fur trapper as well as taxidermist, hunts local whitetail deer, and has an interest in hunting fox/coyote/raccoon via predator calling. She is a very avid 2A supporter as well. The trapping has put her in touch with how the local furbearers are "supposed to look like", both inside and outside.
There is much pride in the mounting of all animals. They are done very well detailed. A lot of time and experience are put into the mounts. Jaw sets for many species and most mounting styles are competition style jaw cups that are purchased already exceptionally detailed, but however do cost quite a bit more than standard jaw sets. The animals these are usually used on are bears, elk bugling, mountain lions, coyotes, wolverines, and bobcats. Some small animal mounts are done on custom made hand wrapped forms. All eyes used are of high quality. On some species artificial replacement noses are used as they look much better due to issues that can occur with shrinkage and inner nose detail anatomy being very hard to replicate by hand. These are used on bears, wolves, coyotes, and mountain lions primarily, but may be used on other species as well. Custom casting work is available for change out heads, cast/use from your animal's jaws, etc.
While Brush Wolf Taxidermy specializes in mammal mounts, Stephanie can also do birds ( including waterfowl), some reptiles, some pets, and even create mythical/cryptozoological creations. Fur hats are another specialty. They can be made from your furs or ones she legally obtains.
All hides for mounting are fully tanned. Deer capes and other large game skins such as bear, elk, moose, wolf, ect, are commercially tanned. This gives longevity, keeps mounts from fading in color, and decreases shrinkage to almost none. The studio is “smoke free”.
Brush Wolf Taxidermy is state and federally licensed to do taxidermy.
